Arran School House is a beautiful period property which is perfect for family holidays or special gatherings with friends. Overlooking the breathtaking Shiskine valley it is just a 5 minute drive from Blackwaterfoot beach, one of the finest sandy beaches on the island, and an easy 20 minute drive from Brodick ferry.

Built in the early 1900s as school accommodation, the house has been moderinsed to create a warm and welcoming space which is still full of original features, charm and character. You will enjoy the large, light-filled rooms, decorated with a stylish mix of antiques and modern furniture, best quality bed linens and towels, the fully equipeted kitchen/ dining room for sharing memorable meals and the enclosed garden, perfect for children (and pups). In addition to comfortable furnishings throughout we provide additional rugs, blankets and games for easy lounging on those less inviting days outside.

The house is ideally located for exploring the many attractions of the Isle of Arran be it a slice of perfect cheesecake from the Blackwaterfoot Bakehouse followed by a coastal walk, a round at golf at the iconic Shiskine Golf Club (the world's only 12 hole course) or a horse riding lesson on the beach (see Things to do). Arran School House is truly one of the island's most inviting holiday rentals.

Special mention about the ferries: we cannot urge you, our lovely guests, strongly enough to book your ferry to Arran as soon as possible. There is very limited capacity this summer, with the weekends being especially busy. For that reason we have chosen to run our weekly rentals from Wednesdays and Thursdays - you will have a much better chance of getting convent sailings.
Shiskine is a quiet village in a central location on Arran, ideal for exploring the whole island. On one side of the house is the very small village school and on the other the village church. The house enjoys open outlooks to the Shiskine Valley from the front and rear

Getting around

A car would be preferred but not essential. A regular bus service operates allowing access to all towns and villages on the island. A bus stop is located only a very short walk from the house. Arran is extremely popular with cyclists.

" Without a doubt the best place to stay in Arran.  Kate is an amazing host.  The house is super comfortable and has everything you need for your holiday.  I have already booked for next year."
